Nkisi Nkondi Figure

Originating from the Yombe, a subgroup of the Kongo peoples, this Nkisi Nkondi power figure is densely embedded with iron nails—each representing an oath, plea, or act of spiritual intervention. The mirrored cavity at its center was believed to house a spirit force activated during rituals. With its commanding stance and expressive face, this figure served as both protector and enforcer, mediating between the physical and spiritual realms on behalf of the community.
